About the Lodge

Staying at Lake Burunge Tented Lodge

Lake Burunge Tented Lodge sits on the shores of Lake Burunge, inside a 25,000-acre community wildlife area managed by the Mbugwe people, just a 20-minute drive from the gate of Tarangire National Park. The lodge lies in the natural wildlife corridor between Tarangire and Lake Manyara, so wildlife moving between the two parks often passes close by, and the lakeshore is excellent for birdwatching.

Its 38 canvas tents stand on raised wooden decks, each with an en-suite bathroom and a private terrace. There are suite tents for couples and family tents that sleep four to five, which makes Lake Burunge one of our favourite bases for families on a Tarangire safari. The elevated restaurant, swimming pool and evening campfire all look out over the bush and the lake.

Between game drives in Tarangire, guests can take an escorted walk down to the lakeshore, enjoy sundowners as the sun sets over the water, or visit nearby Hadzabe, Datoga, Maasai and Iraqw communities.
