Staying at Kitela Lodge
Kitela Lodge sits in the green hills above Karatu in the Ngorongoro Highlands, surrounded by its own coffee plantation and gardens, and only a short drive from the Lodoare Gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. That makes it an ideal base for an early descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, and an easy stop between Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the Serengeti.
The lodge has 20 spacious chalet-style rooms at ground level, each with a private terrace, a bathtub and shower, and views across the valley. Interconnecting and family rooms make it a comfortable choice for families. After a day on safari, guests can unwind at the swimming pool, book a massage, or relax on the restaurant terrace.
Kitela is also a place to slow down: take a guided walk through the farm and coffee plantation, enjoy sundowners over the Karatu valley, or join a cultural visit to the Hadzabe, Datoga and Iraqw communities near Lake Eyasi.
