Travel Information for Tanzania Safaris

Most travelers from the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe require a tourist visa to enter Tanzania.

• Apply online via the official Tanzania eVisa portal (recommended)
• Visa on arrival available at major international airports
• Passport must be valid for at least six months beyond entry date

We recommend securing your visa prior to departure for a seamless arrival experience.

A Yellow Fever certificate is required only if arriving from a Yellow Fever endemic country. Recommended for US, UK, and European travelers:

• Routine vaccinations
• Malaria prevention (consult your physician)
• Travel clinic visit 6–8 weeks before departure

The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS), though US Dollars are widely accepted in safari regions.

• ATM access available in Arusha and Dar es Salaam

We recommend carrying small denominations for gratuities.

Tipping is customary and appreciated for excellent service.

• Private Safari Guide: $70-$100 per guest per day
• Lodge Staff: $10–$15 per guest per day (shared staff box)
• Kilimanjaro Crew: Detailed guidance provided pre-departure

Gratuities are always discretionary.

Tanzania is a year-round safari destination.

• June – October: Dry season, exceptional wildlife viewing
• January – March: Calving season in the Serengeti
• April – May: Green season, fewer visitors

Zanzibar offers warm tropical weather throughout the year.

For fly-in safaris:

• Soft-sided bags only
• Maximum 15 kg (33 lbs), including hand luggage

Soft bags are recommended for all safari itineraries for ease of storage in 4×4 vehicles.

Tanzania uses UK-style Type G plugs (230V). Most luxury lodges offer Wi-Fi, though speeds may vary in remote areas. Many camps operate on solar power. A universal travel adapter is recommended.
