Day by Day Itinerary

Mti Mkubwa Camp 2,650 m / 8,694 ft 7 km 3–4 hrs

After breakfast and transfer to Lemosho Gate, climbers complete park formalities before beginning the trek through the lush rainforest. The trail is rich in wildlife and bird species. The gradual ascent leads to Mti Mkubwa Camp, where dinner and overnight stay take place.

Shira 1 Camp 3,610 m / 11,844 ft 8 km 5–6 hrs

The forest zone begins to thin as the trail enters the heath and moorland region. Climbers gain altitude steadily while enjoying spectacular views of Shira Ridge and Kibo Peak. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp.

Shira 2 Camp 3,850 m / 12,631 ft 7 km 3–4 hrs

A gentle trek across the Shira Plateau allows for proper acclimatization. The terrain is relatively easy with wide open landscapes and panoramic mountain views.

Barranco Camp 3,960 m / 12,992 ft 10 km 6–8 hrs

This is a key acclimatization day. The trail ascends gradually to Lava Tower at 4,630m before descending to Barranco Camp. The “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps the body adapt to altitude.

Karanga Camp 4,035 m / 13,238 ft 5 km 4–5 hrs

The day begins with the famous Barranco Wall climb. Though steep, it is not technical. After reaching the top, the trail continues across ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp for overnight stay.

Barafu Camp 4,640 m / 15,223 ft 4 km 3–4 hrs

A steady climb through alpine desert terrain leads to Barafu Camp. After lunch, climbers rest and prepare equipment for the midnight summit attempt.

Mweka Camp 3,100 m / 10,171 ft 17 km 10–14 hrs

The summit attempt begins around midnight. Climbers ascend slowly to Stella Point and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, the group descends to Mweka Camp for overnight rest.

1,640 m / 5,381 ft 10 km 3–4 hrs

The final descent passes through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Climbers receive summit certificates before transferring back to Moshi or Arusha.
