Riding time

1.5–2 hours

Difficulty

Price

Our launch ride, and the easiest way to start: a loop of about 7 km (4.3 mi) around Lake Duluti, the small volcanic crater lake at the foot of Mount Meru just east of Arusha. It starts and finishes at Lake Duluti Lodge, a working coffee farm beside the lake, takes 1.5 to 2 hours with stops, and suits riders of every level.

The ride

  1. Lake Duluti Lodge. Meet your guide and fit your bike and helmet; our Land Cruiser brings the bikes.
  2. Garden lanes and forest. Shaded lanes through banana palms and coffee lead to the Lake Duluti sign and onto the forest track.
  3. Duluti West Parkway. The track runs above the western shore through the forest reserve, with the water glinting through the trees.
  4. East Duluti Road and back. Round the eastern side, where fish eagles, kingfishers and herons hunt along the shore, and back to the lodge.

The film below follows our first group around the lake when we launched the ride in October 2026.

Good to know

  • Ride in the morning, when the air is cool and the light on the lake is softest.
  • The tracks are dirt and gravel, mostly flat with a few short climbs.
  • Easy to add on the day you arrive or the day before you fly home: Kilimanjaro International Airport is about 40 minutes away.
