Kilimanjaro Rongai Route – 7 Days

Kilimanjaro Trekking

Kilimanjaro Rongai Route – 7 Days

Destinations

Arusha, Mount Kilimanjaro

Duration

10 Days

Max Altitude

5,895m

The Rongai Route is the only route that climbs Kilimanjaro from the north, starting close to the Kenyan border. The northern slopes receive less rain than the south, which makes Rongai a good choice in the wetter months, and the trail is far quieter than the southern routes. A night beneath the jagged spires of Mawenzi at Mawenzi Tarn helps acclimatisation before the summit, and the descent follows the Marangu Route on the other side of the mountain.

At a Glance

  • Days in country: 10 days: 3 transition days in Arusha (before and after the hike) and 7 days on Kilimanjaro
  • Lodging: Arusha: Premium or Premium Plus. On Kilimanjaro: North Face all-season mountaineering tents, one person in a 2-person tent and two people in a 3-person tent
  • Price per person: On request
  • Summit: Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) via Gilman's Point, from Kibo Hut

Why Choose the Rongai Route

  • Quiet, remote trails on the drier northern side
  • A good option in the rainy seasons
