Getting Around: Vehicles & Flights

Our private Land Cruisers, park flights with Auric Air and Flightlink, and Air Tanzania between cities.

5 sections

On an Exceptional Safaries trip, every journey is arranged for you: private Land Cruisers with our own guides on the ground, light aircraft into the national parks with Auric Air and Flightlink, and Air Tanzania between cities. Airport transfers are included, so from the moment you land you are in our hands.

1 Our Safari Land Cruisers

Road safaris are driven in 4x4 Toyota Land Cruisers, built for Tanzania's park roads and driven by our certified professional guides.

  • A maximum of 4–5 guests per Land Cruiser, not six as with many other tour operators, so everyone has space and a clear view.
  • An open roof for standing up to watch and photograph wildlife.
  • Refrigerated water, wine, beer and sodas on board.
  • Electrical outlets inside the vehicle to charge cameras and phones.
  • Picnic breakfasts and lunches in the bush, so game drives are never cut short.

Land Cruisers and fuel are included in the price of your tour, and private vehicles can be arranged so that your group has its own guide and sets its own pace.

3 City-to-City Flights: Air Tanzania

Between cities, such as Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, Mwanza and Kigoma, we book Air Tanzania, the national airline. It is the simplest way to connect a safari in the north with the coast, Zanzibar or the west of the country.

4 Luggage on Light Aircraft

  • A maximum of 15 kg (33 lbs) per person, including hand luggage and camera bags.
  • Soft-sided bags only: hard suitcases do not fit in the small aircraft holds.
  • Soft bags are also the best choice on road safaris, for easy storage in the Land Cruisers.

5 Arriving in Tanzania and Airport Transfers

For safaris in the north and for Kilimanjaro, the nearest international airport is Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), between Arusha and Moshi. Other gateways are Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam and Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) on Zanzibar. Our team meets you on arrival, and all airport transfers are included in your tour.
