Discover Enduimet

Enduimet is a community wildlife area on the north-western side of Mount Kilimanjaro, stretching across open savannah and acacia woodland to the Kenyan border and Amboseli National Park. It is managed together with the Maasai villages who live here, and it offers one of the most memorable views in Tanzania: herds of elephants walking across the plains with the snows of Kilimanjaro rising behind them.

Elephants and Giraffes Below Kilimanjaro

Enduimet lies on the elephant corridor between Amboseli and the forests of Kilimanjaro, and it is home to one of the largest elephant populations in the region. Giraffes are seen almost every day, browsing the acacias with the mountain in the background, together with zebra, wildebeest, eland, gerenuk, lesser kudu and spotted hyena. With very few vehicles, sightings are quiet and unhurried.

A Day Hike on Mount Kilimanjaro

The highlight of a stay in Enduimet is a guided day hike on Kilimanjaro itself. Without committing to a full climb, guests walk on the mountain's western slopes from Londorossi Gate, through montane rainforest home to colobus monkeys and rich birdlife, with views over the plains below, and are back at their lodge by the evening. No climbing experience is needed, and it is a perfect taste of the mountain before or after a safari.

Walking Safaris and Maasai Culture

Because Enduimet is outside the national parks, it allows activities that are not possible elsewhere: walking safaris with Maasai warriors, sundowners on rocky hilltops and visits to local Maasai communities. It is about an hour and a half from Kilimanjaro International Airport, an easy start or end to any northern Tanzania trip.
