Riding time
2.5–3.5 hours
Difficulty

Price
$200 per person, as an add-on
West Kilimanjaro is open, dry country on the far side of the mountain from the climbing gates, in the wildlife corridor that links Kilimanjaro with Amboseli. Riding here, you share the tracks with Maasai herders and, often, with elephant, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest, while Kilimanjaro fills the horizon. It is the same country as our West Kilimanjaro Safari Tour, seen at the pace of a bicycle.
The ride
The ride on the map below starts at Simba Farm near Ngare Nairobi, high on the western slopes at about 1,750 m (5,741 ft), and runs some 21 km (13 mi) down through farmland and open bush to Tingatinga and the Olpopongi Maasai Cultural Village at about 1,200 m (3,937 ft). It is mostly downhill, with Kilimanjaro at your back.
Good to know
2.5 to 3.5 hours of riding on dirt tracks, mostly downhill.
Add it to our West Kilimanjaro Safari Tour, or to any safari or Kilimanjaro climb that starts from Moshi or Arusha.
