Safety & Responsible Travel

Staying safe, respecting wildlife and local cultures, and travelling responsibly.

5 sections

Tanzania is one of Africa's most stable and welcoming safari destinations. With a little common sense, and the care of our team, your trip will be safe, respectful and good for the places you visit.

1 How We Look After You

  • Certified professional guides.
  • Carefully selected lodges.
  • 24/7 ground support throughout your trip.

2 On Safari

  • Always follow your guide's instructions, and stay in the vehicle except where it is safe and permitted to get out.
  • Never feed or approach wild animals.
  • Many camps are unfenced: after dark, ask a member of staff to walk you to your tent.
  • Drones are not allowed in the national parks without a permit.

3 In Towns and Cities

  • Keep valuables in your lodge safe and carry only what you need.
  • Always ask before photographing people.

4 Respecting Local Cultures

A friendly "Jambo" goes a long way. Zanzibar is a mostly Muslim island, so cover shoulders and knees away from the beach. When visiting Maasai, Hadzabe and other communities, follow your guide's lead and the customs of your hosts.

5 Conservation and Community

Your journey contributes directly to wildlife conservation and to local communities. Tanzania has banned plastic carrier bags to protect its wildlife, and we ask every guest to help keep the parks clean.
