About the Lodge
Staying at Elewana The Manor at Ngorongoro
Elewana The Manor at Ngorongoro is an elegant country estate in the green hills south of the Ngorongoro Crater, near Karatu, surrounded by coffee plantations. Its whitewashed Manor House is built in the Cape Dutch style, and its interiors blend East African hospitality with Afro-European architecture and décor, making it one of the most refined places to stay before or after a day in the crater.
The estate has 18 Manor Cottage Suites set in nine cottages around the gardens. Each suite has its own entrance and private sun terrace, a double-sided log-burning fireplace dividing the room, a king-size bed, and an en-suite bathroom with a Victorian claw-foot bath, twin basins and a large rainfall shower. For families, the two-storey Stable Cottage sleeps up to six, with two en-suite bedrooms, a children's room and playroom, a family lounge and a personal attendant.
Days begin with an early start for a game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater, with a picnic lunch on the crater floor, or a visit to Lake Manyara National Park. Back on the estate, guests can ride horses through the coffee-covered hills with a guide (no experience needed, and pony rides are free for children under 10), take a coffee tour, enjoy a picnic on the grounds, book a deep-tissue massage, or watch the sunset over the hills with cocktails in the Manor gardens.
