Staying at Luwela Camp Serengeti
Luwela Camp is an intimate luxury tented camp on the secluded slopes of Makoma Hill, in the heart of the central Serengeti. The area has superb game viewing all year round, from big cats on the plains to more than 500 bird species, and the Great Migration passes nearby as it moves through the central Serengeti. It is the sister camp of Lake Duluti Lodge in Arusha.
There are just nine solar-powered tents, each with a private veranda and lounge seating looking out over the plains. Inside are super-king or twin beds, a desk and an en-suite bathroom with a flush toilet and a large solar-heated shower.
Dining is farm-to-table, with fresh produce from the camp's own gardens. Days are spent on game drives, and the camp can arrange hot-air balloon safaris over the central Serengeti.
